Abstract

Quantum Computing has reached a sufficiently reliable maturity for permitting its hardware and software engineering. Politecnico di Torino, with a joint team from Electronics and Computer Engineering Departments, is going to explore all the possibilities provided by this new computational paradigm on the different levels of the Information and
Communication Technologies. Electronics engineers are working on the development of a design and simulation infrastructure for the comparison of the execution of quantum algorithms on different Quantum Computing
hardware implementations, based on models of technologies both already consolidated, as superconducting qubits and trapped ions, and still under study, as molecules. Computer engineers are interested in the analysis and the design of quantum algorithms with both gate-array quantum computers and quantum annealers, in order to understand their potential engineering applications in Industry, with a current particular focus on Telecommunications.
